This practice report is based on the translation of the prospectus of PPDAI.This paper mainly describes and analyzes the processes involved in translation project.It expatiates on the characteristics of vocabulary like frequent use of acronyms and extensive use of terminology,characteristics of sentence and text.Characteristics of sentence is encompassed by multiple long sentences,formulaic language and use of passive voice,and characteristics of text include complex and multiple text and fixed form and content with special attention on the guided Skopos theory in the translation process.Due to the differences in the language and culture between the source text and target text,reasonable and effective translation methods and strategies need to be adopted in order to meet the expectations of the target reader and commercial purposes such as literal translation,inversion,phrasing,change of passive voice and so forth.The paper begins by delving into a myriad of translation practices and processes that are often applied in prospectus translations and other translation projects.It then analyzes some typical cases from the prospectus through the characteristics of the vocabulary,sentence structures and text used on a lexical and syntactic level.Finally,it details the guided Skopos theory and how its corresponding translation techniques can be adopted in order to resolve concerns in the translation process and meet final business requirements of the prospectus.Under the guidance of the Skopos theory,it is important to clarify the purpose of translation and choose the appropriate translation methods or strategies in order to achieve the fluency in the process of E-C translations for the prospectus.Combining the application of theory with good translation practices will assist in promoting the translation result. |
