Simultaneous interpreting is a complex task for the interpreter who should be equipped with a wide range of knowledge, prominent comprehensive ability, adept interpreting skills, and psychological adjustment ability, etc.Simultaneous interpreting plays an increasingly important role in today's international conferences and exchanges. This article discusses a special kind of simultaneous interpreting, that is simultaneous interpreting with PPT.When the interpreter is in simultaneous interpreting with PPT,s/he needs not only to keep up with the speaker's speech content but also to deal with the texts, pictures, and forms in the PPT.Besides, with the presenting way of multimedia, the working environment of the interpreter becomes more complicated and unpredictable. Therefore, simultaneous interpreting with PPT is a test for the interpreters to well allocate their energy to multitasks, and to give a full play to their professional skills.Daniel Gile is one of the world's most recognized researchers studying interpretation. He published his book Basic Concepts and Models for Interpreter and Translator Training in 1995.In this book,he proposed the Effort Models of translating and interpreting, especially the Effort Model of simultaneous interpreting and the Effort Model of simultaneous interpreting with text.He defines that simultaneous interpreting=Listening and Analysis Effort(L)+Short-term memory Effort(M)+Speech production Effort(S)+Coordination Effort(C),and simultaneous interpreting with text=Reading(R)+L+M+S+C.The two Effort Model theories scientifically analyze and summarize the processing capacities allocation in the simultaneous interpreting, the possible problems that may occur, and the possible causes of these problems. Moreover,in the Effort Model of simultaneous interpreting with text,Gile emphasizes the advantages and disadvantages of the text in the interpreting process, which is instructive for the author to correctly treat the visual information presented by PPT and find strategies to deal with the PPT in the simultaneous interpreting. The report is thus based on Gile's Effort Model to record one of the author's simulated interpreting for the 2017 China(Wuhan)International Bridge Science and Technology Forum. The report includes five chapters. The first chapter introduces the background, purposes and significance of the task;the second chapter describes the whole process of the task;the third chapter is the theoretical framework, that is the Effort Model;and the fourth chapter is the case study of typical problems, and the analysis of the causes rendering the problems and some strategies to solve the problems;the last chapter is the conclusion and the author's reflection and suggestions. This research found that the problems easily arising in simultaneous interpreting with PPT are inaccurate interpreting, loss of information and poor logic, and the causes leading to the problems include inadequate preparation,on-spot pressure, the speaker's accent, high density of the information on the PPT,highly improvised speech and terminologies beyond knowledge. Therefore, the report proposed some strategies to solve the problems, including full preparations and less pressure, accurate judgement and prediction on taking advantage of the PPT,selective reading, timely informing, frequently summarizing and constantly optimizing. The findings are expected to be meaningful for the interpreters to better handle the simultaneous interpreting with PPT.
