With the highly frequent exchanges between China and the rest of the world, the demand for interpreters, especially simultaneous interpreters,is greatly increasing. As a major form of interpretation,SI is widely applied and plays an important role in international conferences and press conferences.Simultaneous Interpreting,a high-load and challenging interpreting activity, integrates hearing, memory, information processing, language integration and production. It requires interpreters to coordinate listening and speaking concurrently and process a strictly limited amount of information under the time constraints.Hence, the excellent performance made by interpreters can only be achieved by coordinating four efforts such as listening and analyzing, memory, production, coordination simultaneously.Effort allocation imbalance, which occurs in nearly each interpreting activity,is a main challenge for interpreters. For this,Daniel Gile puts forward Effort Model Theory that aims at achieving the rational allocation of energy for the successful implementation of SI activities.Under the guidance of Effort Model, this report is concerned with the American President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address in 2019 and in 2020.It targets to explore appropriate strategies for improving interpreting quality by analyzing difficulties during the simulated interpreting activity. The difficulties are associated with limitations on short-term memory, misunderstandings on listening, shortages of vocabulary reserve, heavy burden on complex sentences respectively. For solving these difficulties, some appropriate strategies such as syntactic linearity, changing Ear-Voice span, omission, and anticipation are put forward by the author. It is hoped that the author’s overall performance can be effectively improved and help other interpreters to cope with similar difficulties in the future.
