With the rapid development of the society,English is becoming increasingly important.However,at present,English learning in high school is not that satisfying.The traditional English teaching emphasizes the importance of vocabulary and grammar.Therefore,the class teaching pattern is mainly to be "the teacher teaches and the students take notes" and the activities in class are doomed to be dull and boring,which does great harm to the students' learning interests and learning initiative.Having studied relevant theories of cooperative learning and multi-level teaching,and taken the actual condition into consideration,the school where the author has been working,has come up with the idea of "class in class" teaching model,hoping to improve the present situation.To verify whether applying "class in class" teaching model into practical English teaching can effectively improve the tough situation,the author carried out a series of research.This thesis aims to find out whether the students' academic scores can be greatly improved,whether the students' learning interests and motivation can be highly enhanced and whether both the learning and teaching efficiency can be effectively improved by applying the "class in class" teaching into practice.Thus,the author has referred to the literature both at home and abroad and relevant theories and finally chooses the constructive theory,the cognitive development theory etc.as the theoretical basis.Choosing two classes which share the similar situation as the experiment subjects,the author has carried out an experiment lasting nearly one year from September,2016 to July,2017.By comparing the academic scores,the author finds that in experimental class,the academic scores haven't been improved greatly which shows the "class in class" teaching model in this experimental fails to improve the academic scores effectively.By collecting and making analysis of various data,the author also finds that applying the "class in class" teaching model into practice can not only enhance the students' learning interest and motivation,improve the learning and teaching efficiency but also help the students build up confidence,develop social skills and improve interpersonal relationship.Besides,the author has discovered some shortcomings of this model.Based on what have been found through the research,the author believes that,to some degree,the "class in class" teaching model is feasible and effective in English teaching in high school.Therefore,the author will correct the mistakes and problems in the experiment,try to revise and perfect the design of experiment,perfect the "class in class" teaching model and then apply it into practice again to further study its feasibility and efficiency.
