This thesis is a translation report based on Chapters 12-14 from The Read-Aloud Family: Making Meaningful and Lasting Connections with Your Kids by Sarah McKenzie,an American writer of children literature. Those excerpts mainly aim at three age groups of Children, which are 0-3,4-7,8-12,respectively.In order to help readers conduct an effective and beneficial parent-child reading, the author provides useful suggestions in her work, including a detailed reading plan with some do's and don'ts.Moreover, there is also a list of parent-child reading materials and brief introductions that match to the three age ranges. However, the introduction of this type of materials to China is still quite limited.Translation of both the way of reading to children and these reading materials to Chinese parents will certainly bring some insightful ideas to Chinese parents and family education.Sarah McKenzie's The Read-Aloud Family: Making Meaningful and Lasting Connections with Your Kids is closely linked to our daily life. Its language, although rather colloquial,is quite difficult to render into precise Chinese. There are distinctive differences between Chinese and English in terms of their phrases, sentence structures, paragraph connections and narrative styles. In this translation report, the source text is analyzed and translated into Chinese in consideration of static and dynamic state, abstraction and concreteness, active and passive voice, hypotaxis and parataxis, etc.,from the perspective of contrastive analysis between English and Chinese. After this translation, the translator's knowledge of specific translation theory and the knowledge on parent-child reading are greatly improved, and so is the translation ability.
