The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read(and Your Children Will be Glad That You Did)is a book on family education. The material that the translator selects is the third chapter of this book. The third chapter focuses on the “Feeling” which plays a decisive role in the parent-child relationship. The translation of this book can help Chinese readers learn advanced foreign educational concepts and improve parent-child relations in a scientific way.The book selected for this translation practice is a family educational reading material aiming at parenting issues. The author elaborates on how to cultivate a good parent-child relationship from the perspective of psychology. The content is both scientific and readable. In the case statement and the description of the characteristics of parent-child psychological activities, emphasis is placed on the transmission of information to reproduce the characteristics of different family education methods to readers, which belongs to the informative text;while in the part of situational exercises and suggestions,it should play the function of calling the readers, causing the readers to think, feel and take action on the parent-child relationship, which belongs to the vocative text. Therefore, the material has the characteristics of both informative and vocative text.Peter Newmark's theory of communicative translation is suitable for the two types of text,so the translator completed translation practice under the guidance of the theory of communicative translation. The translator pays more attention to the convention and cultural background of the target language when delivering information, rather than the word-for-word translation,so that the readers of the target language respond to the translation in the same way as the readers of the source language respond to the original text.Based on this theory, the difficulties and problems in translation are analyzed and solved at three levels: vocabulary, sentence and discourse. The report is mainly divided into four parts. The first chapter is a description of the translation task, which introduces the source of the translation material, the author's background, the content of the book and the significance of the translation task. The second chapter is a description of translation process, which first introduces the preparation before translation, including reading and analysis of materials, the use of auxiliary tools and the selection of translation theories, and then summarizes the difficulties encountered in the translation and solutions, the analysis and modification of the second draft and the determination of the final draft. The third chapter is the case study of translation. The translator chooses the typical examples in the text to discuss the translation methods from the three levels of vocabulary, sentence and discourse. The fourth chapter is the summary of translation practice, which mainly describes the experience in the process of translation,as well as the expectation and prospect for future work.Through this translation practice, the translator not only understands and summarizes shortcomings in the field of translation, but also gains the knowledge of pedagogical psychology, and accumulates the translation experience in relevant fields.More importantly, through the application of communicative translation, the translation skills of informative and vocative texts are improved.
