A Report On The Translation Of Global EV Outlook 2017 From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

With the increasing frequency and closeness of scientific and technological exchanges between China and foreign countries,EST has become a bridge for China to go global and for the rest of the world to deeply understand China's scientific and technological achievements.EST text is widely used in all fields of natural sciences,including scientific papers,science and technology works,experimental reports and other articles.It has already become the basic tool for the exchanges of science and technology among countries.Therefore,EST translation is of great significance to the communication and development of science and technology both at home and abroad.EST is featured by accuracy,simplicity,rigor and objectivity,which has placed higher demand on translators.This translation practice report aims to explore the translation strategies of EST under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory.Global EV Outlook 2017 reviews the latest developments in new registrations and the stock of EVs,looking primarily at electric cars and focusing on the developments that took place in 2016 as well as the trends since 2010.Through this translation project,the author combines Nida's functional equivalence theory with translation practice,deepens the understanding of the theory,explores specific translation strategies of EST,and improves the translation proficiency.This report consists of five chapters.The first chapter introduces the translation project,including the background of the project,its importance and the structure of the report.The second chapter is task process,which mainly discusses the pre-translation preparations and the process of translation.Chapter Three gives a brief overview of Nida's functional equivalence theory and its guiding role in the translation project.The forth chapter focuses on case study,analyzing the practical application of functional equivalence theory at lexical level,syntactic level,and textual level.The fifth chapter draws a conclusion,summarizing problems that the author has encountered during translation and valuable experiences of solving these problems.
