The translation and introduction of excellent literary works are conducive to cultural interaction and communication, and can help people to understand the history and culture of foreign countries and promote the prosperity and development of cultures. This paper is a translation report of the English novel Reservoir 13,written by Jon McGregor,a British writer. The book takes a missing girl as a clue to narrate the whole story. It mainly talks about people's daily life in the village over the past thirteen years after the disappearance of the missing girl. With the simple and natural writing style, this novel explains the meaning of life in a rational and objective way. This translation report consists of five parts. The first part is the task description,in which the translator introduces the background and significance of the translation project concisely, and makes a brief summary of the story and its writing features. The second part is description of the translation process, which mainly discusses preparations before translation, analysis and revision of post-translation,especially the difficulties in translation. The third part particularly explains the reasons for choosing translation thoughts put forward by Lin Yutang,a famous translator in China, and introduces the three aspects of the theory—faithfulness, smoothness and beauty. In part four, the translator illustrates the guidance of Lin Yutang's translation thoughts with specific case analysis. The last part is the conclusion, which mainly presents the achievements and unsolved problems of this report,as well as inspirations and suggestions for future translation work.
