A Report On Simulated Consecutive Interpreting Of Cook’s Speech To 2015 Washington University Graduates

According to interpretation, consecutive interpretation between English and Chinese is aimed at letting the people who use English and Chinese achieve a barrier-free and clear communication. In the process of consecutive interpretation, the Interpretive Theory occupies an important position. Based on the interpretation of Cook’s Speech to 2015 Washington University Graduates, the interpreter chose Interpretive Theory to do the interpretation. Guided by the Interpretive Theory and the Triangular Model, the interpreter makes a detailed description of the interpreting process and the application of interpreting strategies in lexical level, syntactical level and textual level.This report consists of four chapters. The first chapter is task description. It introduces the task background and the task requirements. The second chapter deals with the interpreting process which includes preparation, interpreting process and adjustments after interpreting. The third chapter is the main part of this report. It includes theoretical framework and case analysis. It introduces the Interpretive Theory and Triangular Model first. Then the interpreter introduces the interpreting strategies guided by the Interpretive Theory. The fourth chapter is conclusion. In this chapter, the author summarizes the whole report and points out the enlightenment of the Interpretive Theory. This part also points out the significance of the Interpretive Theory to the further translation practice.
