In our daily communication, due to the differences of gender and value, different topics tend to be selected between men and women in dating dialogues.Gender language has always been a research hotspot in sociolinguistics, and many scholars' researches focus on its structure, commonalities, differences and pragmatic effects from the perspectives of traditional grammar, sociology, psychology and systemic functional linguistics. But there are few scholars exploring the tendency of topic selection in multi-person dating dialogues, and there is also no strong explanation with specific corpuses.Dialogic syntax, the most cutting-edge achievement of cognitive linguistics, holds the view that traditional syntax only studies the horizontal relationships of words and ignores the vertical relationships among clauses in dialogue. However, the studies before only analyze two people's conversations, which haven't involved any multi-person dialogues. Therefore, the author tries to construct RS model based on Reference Point Chain,Spreading-Activation Theory, and Semantic Resonance of Dialogic Syntax to analyze multi-person dating dialogues. In the model, the author proposes the idea of multi-direction resonance and resonance circulation, which contributes to the analysis of multi-person topic selection. The whole research is based on a closed corpus with 395 groups of dialogues and 2082 resonance points selected from a TV program called If You are the One in 2018.Above all,the main contributions of this thesis can be shown as follows:(1)The research scope is expanded from two-person dialogue to multi-person dialogue, because there are usually more than two persons involving in real-world conversations.(2)The extension of topic is no longer unidirectional but multidirectional, interlacing, breaking among multi-person dialogues.Based on the deficiencies of previous theories, the author attempts to construct RS model to explain the topic resonance frequency better in multi-person dialogues.(3)The conclusions are listed after a detail statistical analysis of 2082 resonance points(see Chapters 4 to 5 for details). To sum up,men tend to talk about leisure activity(35%)> spouse criterion(32%)>(25%)> basic information(12%)> love experience(5%)> interpersonal relationship. On the contrary, women pay more attention to topics like leisure activity(37%)> basic information(29%)> love experience(20%)> spouse criterion(9%)> interpersonal relationship(6%).And the rules behind resonance frequency can be listed like this:(1)Both men and women tend to use partial resonance in gender discourses.(2)Compared with women, men use complete and null resonances more frequently.(3)Compared with men, women use redundant resonance more often. Therefore, the male language is relatively more straightforward to show his true personality;while the female language is comparatively more euphemistic to maintain an ideal image.Furthermore, the proper choice of topic and correct interpretation of topic resonance frequency play an important role in promoting the establishment of dating relationships.
