Motivation is an important factor contributing English language learning,which greatly affects learners' ability to actively participate in second language acquisition and actively overcome learning difficulties.However,at present,most studies only focus on studying students' English learning motivation,but neglect the negative motivation phenomenon that may exist in English learning,that is,motivation decline.Dornyei proposed that the motivation reduction itself is intrinsically closely related to the failure of language learning,which has gradually aroused the interest of learners in the past two decades.This study is devoted to investigating the phenomenon of demotivation and its possible influential factors during high school students' English learning.Firstly,this essay reviewed the process of motivation and demotivation theory and summarized the relevant research achievements in demotivation put forward by domestic and foreign scholars.Based on this theory,the Attached Senior High School of Sichuan Normal University was taken as an example,and the collaboration of quantitative research and qualitative research are adopted to survey the 120 high school students in the Attached School of Sichuan Normal University.The data were analyzed with SPSS 17.0.Afterwards,several students with demotivation in English learning were interviewed.According to the results of the questionnaire survey,demotivation is common in the English learning process of high school students.The main influencing factors arereflected in the following seven factors: teacher factors,learning materials,teaching equipment,internal factors of students,teaching style,teaching methods and compulsory of English learning.Among them,compulsory subject,internal factors of students,teaching style and teaching equipment have greatly affected the motivation of students to learn English.The interview also further verified the quantitative results.Finally,suggestions are put forward from the aspects of students,teachers,parents and schools combined with the results of the study.
