| Motivation is one of the most important factors affecting language learning.With the reform of foreign language teaching,cultivating students’ interest,stimulating the learning motivation of learners of different levels,and making students change from “others want me to learn” to “I want to learn” become an important part of foreign language teaching.However,continuation and maintenance of learners’ motivation have been a difficult problem in foreign language teaching practice.In recent years,scholars at home and abroad have made abundant achievements in motivation research,the study on demotivation is still in its infancy.and rarely involve rural high school students.Therefore,taking a rural senior high school as an example,this paper devotes to investigating the status quo and influencing factors of the demotivation of rural senior high school students’ English learning,and aims to put forward corresponding strategies to guide students to keep away from demotivation,and ultimately improve the quality of English teaching in rural areas.This study raises two research questions:(1)Is there a general demotivation in English learning among rural senior high school students?(2)What are the major influencing factors of students’ English learning demotivation? On the basis of reading the relevant literature,combining quantitative and qualitative research methods,the author conducted a questionnaire survey and interviews with 240 students and 8 teachers from the first grade of a rural senior high school in Hebei Province.It is found that:(1)There is a widespread demotivation in rural high school students’ English learning;(2)The main influencing factors of rural high school students’ English learning demotivation are internal factors,including learning effects,learning interests and learning strategies,followed by external factors,including curriculum,teachers and the learning environment and other factors.Finally,based on the above findings,incorporating some hints from the motivation theory and her own teaching experience,the author puts forward some corresponding strategies to avoid the demotivation of rural senior high school students’ English learning from the perspective of students,teachers,curriculum and learning environment. |
