A Practice Report On Reconstruction Of Complex Sentence Patterns In English-Chinese Translation From The Perspective Of Semantic Translation

With the deepening of globalization,the cultural soft power of each country has gradually become an important factor to measure the overall national strength,and strengthening cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and foreign countries is conducive to the cultural integration of the world.Paper flower is the traditional culture of China.To better inherit paper flower culture,we should not only inherit the paper flower art of China,but also absorb the essence of paper flower culture of other countries.Therefore,the translation of paper flower culture is particularly important for the target language readers to understand foreign paper flower culture.In view of this,this practice report is translated from the English book The Fine Art of Paper Flowers: A Guide to Making Beautiful and Lifelike Botanicals.This book is an informative text,which introduces foreign paper flower culture in detail.At the same time,in this translation practice,the author finds that the text language is accurate,clear and highly professional,but the translation problem of complex sentence patterns is prominent,which brings many difficulties for the author in this translation practice.Guided by Newmark ’ s semantic translation theory,the author divides the translation problem of complex sentence patterns into the frequent occurrence of coordinate and composite structure,sentence with various modifiers,containing segmenting structure.Through further study and exploration,the author adopts the reconstruction of complex sentence patterns translation strategy and puts forward the corresponding solutions respectively.The general-specific reconstruction method and integrated approach reconstruction method are adopted to solve the translation problem of frequent occurrence of coordinate and composite structure.The reconstruction method and inversion method are used to solve the translation problem of sentence with various modifiers.The literal translation method and omitting method are adopted to solve the translation problem of containing segmenting structure.Through this translation practice,the author not only masters the semantic translation theory,but also finds the specific translation strategies for the translation of complex sentence patterns.It is expected to provide some experience and enlightenment for the author’s future translation practice and work.
