Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of A Review Of Recycled Aggregate In Concrete Applications(2000–2017)

This report selects the academic paper A Review of Recycled Aggregate in Concrete Applications(2000-2017)in civil engineering as the source text(ST)to translate.The ST focuses on the disposal methods and legislation of recycled aggregate generated from construction and demolition(C&D)waste.It is a typical EST discourse.At present,the integration of scientific and technological information has become particularly important in international development and exchanges.Therefore,the translation of English for science and technology(EST)is of great significance for the development of science and technology in civil engineering.This report mainly consists of five parts.The first part is the introduction,which mainly includes the research background,purpose,significance of this report and the general structure of this report.In the second part,the translator mainly introduces ST from the aspects of language,vocabulary and grammar.In addition,target readers of the report are described in this part.In the third part,the translator describes the translation task from pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation revision at large.As for the fourth part,the translator analyzes problems existing in the ST from lexical,syntactic and textual level and gains suitable solutions under the guidance of Skopos Theory.Among them,in the lexical level,translator mainly introduces the technical terms,proper nouns and nominalized phrases contained in the ST;in the syntactic level,translator mainly describes the passive voice,attributive clause and complicated sentences contained in the ST;and in the textual level,the translator makes the translation more coherent and improves the readability of the translation tooth and nail.In the last part,the translator draws the conclusion of the translation task,sets forth her findings and prospects for the translation of EST discourse.Through the translation practice,translation ability and experience has been greatly improved for the translator.Furthermore,the translator's understanding of the scientific discourse has been deepened.The translator hopes to inspire more people to participate in the translation practice of EST discourse and provide a model for disposal and legislation of recycled aggregate in China by writing the report.
