Report On The Translation Of Trends And Developments In Green Cement And Concrete Technology

In recent years,with the globalization of economy and the deepening of supply-side structural reform,the development of science and technology is gained increasing attention.The exchange of science and technology at home and abroad is also the trend of the times,which stimulates the demand for EST(English for Science and Technology)translation.With the increasing demand for EST translation,the research of it has also become main concern of translators.The report is based on the translation practice on Trends and Developments in Green Cement and Concrete Technology.The report contains five parts,and the author pays more attention to the case analysis,which is the most complicated and important part.In this part,the author analyzes the translation of the source text(ST)in three aspects under the perspective of the Skopos theory: vocabulary,sentence and discourse.Firstly,the author focuses on the translation of technical terms,proper nouns,common words with specialized meanings and nominalized words at lexical level;secondly,the author analyzes the translation of passive sentences and complicated sentences at syntactic level;finally,the author discusses the cohesion devices at textual level.Some translation strategies,skills and methods are also summarized through the case analysis.For example,at the lexical level,transliteration is used to translate the proper nouns and increase the readability of the target text(TT);at the syntactic level,sequential translation and reversed translation are used to translate the complicated sentences to make the translation more in line with the Chinese expression style;at the discourse level,cohesive devices are adopted to achieve coherence of the translation,thereby improving the integrity of the TT.For the author herself,firstly,she solves some translation problems through this translation practice,thus improving her translation skills;secondly,she has a deep understanding to the EST articles and learns about some specialized knowledge in civil engineering,which broadens the author's horizon.At the meantime,the author hopes to use this report to help general readers better understand the related professional knowledge.It is expected that this translation practice can give some reference for the translators who are interested in EST article translation.
