A Report On Tourism Translation From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

In modern society,tourism has long been an important choice for people to relax and entertain themselves.In the age of globalization,as the mainstay of the tertiary industry,tourism has greatly promoted the rapid economic development.China is abundant in tourism resources,with a long history and rich culture,colorful scenery,which has attracted more and more foreign tourists.Thus,the English translation of tourism information carries an important responsibility of transmitting tourist information and attracting potential foreign tourists,which plays an increasingly significant role in the development of tourism.The Skopos theory is the core theory of German translation functionalism.It advocates resolving translation problems according to practical purposes,and the Skopos rule is regarded as the first principle,on the basis of which the Coherence and Fidelity rules should be emphasized,That is to say,translators should choose a particular translation method according to a specific translation purpose.Therefore,it is of great applicability to take the Skopos theory as the guiding theory of practical translation,the tourism translation.Based on the translation of the main tourist attractions in Yangquan City,Shanxi Province,this report consists of four parts: The first chapter is task description,which introduces the background of the task,the features of the original text and the significance of the study.The second chapter is process description,including translation preparation,translation process and proofreading.The third chapter is case study,which is the core section of this report.The author introduces the origin and development of the Skopos theory at first.Then,according to the features of tourism texts,the author analyzes the guiding role of the three rules of Skopos theory in tourism translation combined with examples by adopting translation methods of addition,omission,adaptation,word order adjustment and word class conversion,etc.so as to comprehensively evaluate the matching degree between the original texts and the translated texts.The last part is the conclusion about the experience got from this practice.Through the understanding of tourism-related knowledge and interpretation of similar texts,including possible problems in translation process and coping skills of corresponding problems,the author believes that this translation practice report is of certain research value and writing value.
