| Hubei is a large province with profound cultural heritage and rich tourism resources. The hometown of the Yan Emperor, the ancestor of the Chinese nation,is in Hubei.Western Hubei generally refers to the western region of Hubei province, including eight regions such as Yichang,Jingzhou, and Shennongjia, etc.Western Hubei is endowed with vast territory, rich resources, healthy ecology as well as diverse culture, which show the cultural characteristics and spiritual outlook of Hubei. However, the publicity of tourism in western Hubei is slightly weak, and there are few English-version introductions to tourism in western Hubei. This thesis uses the excerpt of the cultural heritage of western Hubei from Tourism Culture of Western Hubei as translation practice materials, covering the introductions to some famous sites such as Jingzhou Ancient City Wall,Three Visitors’ Cave,Wudang Mountain, and Wudang Martial Art.The thesis analyzes the problems encountered when translating and puts forward corresponding solutions under the guidance of Skopos theory. The translation practice material is related to tourism cultural heritage. The author summarizes the difficulties during the translation process from three aspects:cultural-loaded words, the names of locations and scenic spots,as well as long and difficult sentences.Combining the corresponding case study of English translation, the author discusses the applicability of the three principles of Skopos theory to the above-mentioned translation difficulties. The thesis concludes that when translating materials related to western Hubei tourism, not only should we consider the thinking patterns and the language expression habits of the target language readers, but also consciously retain the cultural color shown in the original text,so that readers will be able to appreciate the regional culture of western Hubei, thus achieving the external spread of tourism culture in western Hubei. |
