With the rapid development of science and technology and the continuous progress of society,the translation of scientific and technological texts have been paid more and more attention.English for Science and Technology(EST)is a kind of language style in English,which has its unique features in vocabulary,grammar,rhetoric and so on.Translation first lies in practice so we should learn translation theories and translation strategy skills in practice.Only through continuous practice and summing up can we improve our translation ability and proficiency in an effective way.In this paper,a mechanical product description is selected as the translation practice material,guided by Nida’s principle of functional equivalence.The translation strategies of scientific and technological texts are analyzed from lexical,syntactic and textual aspects and finally a summary of practice is acquired.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduces the background of translation materials,the purpose and significance of translation practice.The second chapter gives a summary of the translation process and an analysis of the translation process in vocabulary and syntax.The third chapter mainly introduces Nida’s principle of functional equivalence in the theories and practical significance.The fourth chapter makes a case study from lexical,syntactic and texual aspects and summarizes the corresponding translation methods under the guidance of Nida’s principle of functional equivalence.The last chapter summarizes the translation practice.It is hoped that it will be helpful to translation learners and related translators in the future translation learning and practice. |
