Economic globalization is progressing at a non-stop pace accompanied with ever-advancing scientific and technological development.It therefore requires increasingly enhanced exchanges and communication among countries in science and technology.Science and technology translation will benefit the communication and facilitate the reform of science and culture;it is thus acting an indispensable role in social progress and national development.This report has analyzed problems encountered as well as measures and techniques taken accordingly by the author in translating a science and technology text regarding Maritime Energy under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence theory.It is aimed at providing translators with a few constructive references at practice and science and technology translation study materials.This report starts with an introduction to Nida's translation theory.It has at the same time emphasized the essence of the theory and the possibility to apply it in science and technology translation,providing a ground for following analysis.The report then goes on to outline the content and criteria of the Functional Equivalence theory and to specify three procedures needed to achieve its core.Following that,the author will summarize the characteristics,and analyze the text from aspects of word equivalence,sentence equivalence,and text equivalence with examples.The purpose is to identify translation strategies and techniques actually used under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence theory,e.g.strategies such as literal translation,liberal translation;techniques such as adding and omitting words,adjusting sentence structures.Finally the author will conclude the practical application of the Functional Equivalence theory... |
