The translator selects Chapter Three and Four of the book Found in Translation: How Language Shapes Our Lives and Transforms the World as the source text for translation.Coauthored by Nataly Kelly and Jost Zetzsche,this book was published in 2012 by Penguin Group.In the third and fourth chapters,the authors study the important influence of translation on modern human society through some translation cases in terms of business,literature and religion.According to the comprehensive analysis,the source text belongs to informative text.In order to accurately and effectively show the content and ideas of the source text,the translator uses Newmark’s communicative translation theory to guide the translation practice.During the translation process,the translator follows principles of fidelity,accuracy and readability and accurately expresses what the source text conveys.In addition,there are many long and difficult sentences,professional terms and other languages other than English in the two selected chapters,which causes great difficulties in the translation.Therefore,based on the characteristics of informative text and combined with communicative translation theory,the translator analyzes the difficulties at lexical and syntactic levels.Through this translation practice,the translator can be rich in English and Chinese knowledge,and the practical experience in translation increases.Moreover,the translator hopes that the translation effort can provide some references for the translation of informative text in the future. |
