Reading is one of the important ways of language input,which is the concentrated expression of language knowledge,vocabulary and grammar knowledge.With the deepening of educational reform and the promulgation of the new English curriculum standard,English teaching has shifted from vocabulary and grammar to the cultivation of students’ language skills.Educational psychologist Howard,Gardner put forward the theory of multiple intelligence in “Intelligence Structure” that people have eight kinds of intelligence and thus the overall development of students should be emphasized,as well as their individual differences.The theory,exactly coincides with the requirements of quality education and comprehensive ability education advocated by the new curriculum standards.How to stimulate students’ reading interest and improve their ability in reading are the questions that every English teacher would consider.This paper will,on the base of multiple intelligence theory,explore the ways to apply the theory into high school English classes.The thesis attempts to explore whether the design of high school English reading teaching based on the theory of multiple intelligence can stimulate students’ reading interest.Before the experiment,the students in the class were distributed the "High School Students’ English Reading Questionnaire",the "High School Students’ Multiple Intelligence Questionnaire" and the "High School Students’ English Reading Interest Questionnaire" for the first stage of the questionnaire test.This is done to understand the students’ reading,intelligence and interests,so that the later teaching design can meet the actual situation of the students.A semester teaching experiment was then conducted.After the end of the experiment,the students were given a second "High School Students’ English Reading Interest Survey Questionnaire" and interviewed students.After the end of the experiment,the students were given a second "High School Students’ English Reading Interest Survey Questionnaire" and interviewed students.The questionnaire collected in the first stage and the data collected in the second time were statistically analyzed by SPSS software.The analysis of experimental results shows that the English teaching method under the guidance of multiple intelligence theory can improve the reading interest. |
