| The teaching of English reading has always been the core part of English teaching in junior high schools.Over the years, reading comprehension has accounted for a large proportion of all kinds of English tests.According to the requirements of the National English Curriculum Standard(2011 Edition),English teaching should be student-centered and students’ individual differences need to be taken into consideration. However, under the influence of the current examination system pressure, the teacher always focuses on analyzing sentence structure and grammar knowledge.Students are not very active in the classroom. So,how to arouse students’ reading interest has become an important issue for teachers.Howard Gardner(1983)put forward the Multiple Intelligence Theory in his book Frames of Mind.Multiple intelligence theory holds that each person has at least eight sorts of intelligence, and that every kind of intelligence performs differently in each individual. It emphasizes that teachers should respect each student’s characteristics and pay attention to their individual differences.Meanwhile, teachers should help students to stimulate their interest in learning English and improve their reading scores.Taking the MI theory as the theoretical basis, according to the research instruments such as questionnaires, test papers, and the interviews, the author performed a teaching experiment.73 students from two regular classes in the first grade of No.2 Middle School in Shanshan were selected as subjects of this study.By analyzing the results of the experiment, the author can draw a conclusion:Students’ current situation is poor in English reading. Most of the students in junior 1have little interest in English reading.MI-guided English reading teaching can be helpful in stimulating students’ interest and improving their reading score. The author hopes that this study can provide some reference for teachers’ future development in English teaching process. |
