The English Curriculum Standard promulgated in 2011 points out the focus of the English curriculum reform is to change the English course's emphasis on imparting English grammar and vocabulary knowledge,change the tendency to ignore students' actual language skills,and emphasize that the new curriculum should cultivate students' comprehensive language skills to form students' interest in learning.However,in the traditional English reading classroom,teachers mainly explain the knowledge points and ignore the students' interest in learning.In a way,the teachers require to change the traditional teaching concept and methods to meet the requirements of the English Curriculum Standard.Therefore,applying the theory of Multiple Intelligence to reading teaching meets the requirements of the curriculum reform.The Multiple Intelligence theory was first put forward by Gardner in his book Frames of Mind in 1983.The theory holds that every normal person has eight kinds of intelligence,and each person has a unique combination of intelligence.The theory of Multiple Intelligence stresses that teachers should respect the characteristics of each students' intelligence and design more scientific and efficient teaching activities to promote comprehensive development of students' multiple intelligence.Therefore,in the teaching process of pre-reading,reading and post-reading,various kinds of activities should be designed by teachers to satisfy the needs of different students according to their intelligent tendency.In this thesis,the study combines the Multiple Intelligence theory with the English teaching of high school,in order to improve students' English reading proficiency,especially their reading grades.Besides,through varied forms of activities developed by multiple intelligences to improve English classroom teaching mode,motivate students' reading interest,and cultivate their English reading skills,finally promote the development of students' multiple intelligences and improve English teaching quality.The study designs an experiment in Ganzhou No.1 Senior High School.And theexperimental class and the control class in Senior One are selected to analyze the problems in English reading teaching.Individualized English reading teaching is put into practice with literature review,questionnaire,classroom observation,and SPSS 17.0 as the research tools to study the following two questions:1.Can individualized reading teaching based on Multiple Intelligence theory arouse students' interest in English reading and improve their reading proficiency?2.Can individualized reading teaching based on Multiple Intelligence theory raise students' reading grades in English?The experiment lasts for one semester.And the results show that the English reading interest of students in the experimental class is significantly enhanced,and their reading ability and reading performance have been improved.Applying the theory of Multiple Intelligence to high school English reading teaching can stimulate students' interest in learning,correct English reading attitude,improve students' reading ability in English and promote the development of students' intelligence in different aspects.
