A Report On Business Escort Interpreting In Harbin Fulin Wood Products Company

With the development of economic globalization,business escort interpreters have played an indispensable role in international business activities.Their competence in using appropriate interpreting strategies to communicate effectively is the key to a smooth international business cooperation.This report gives a full account of the author's interpreting practice as a business escort interpreter in Harbin Fulin Wood Products Company and further studies the application of the Skopos theory in business interpreting practice.In this report,the author first introduces the background information and the characteristics of this interpreting task briefly.Then she describes the whole interpreting process.After summarizing the theoretical concept and the major rules of the Skopos theory(the Skopos rule,the coherence rule and the fidelity rule),the author reviews the relevant research literature.Under the theoretical framework of the Skopos theory,the author sumps up several coping strategies through case analysis to tackle with the difficulties encountered in this practice,namely,professional terms,large information chunks and negotiation conflicts.In view of the professional terms,such interpreting strategies as enquiry,explanation and inference are used effectively.As to large information chunks,the strategies of restructuring and conciseness are applied to cope with them.Besides,more flexible interpreting strategies including alteration and interposition are adopted to resolve certain conflicts in the business negotiation.Finally,the author makes a reflection upon the whole interpreting practice.Since there are few business escort interpreting practice reports in the wood products industry,the author hopes that her report could provide some references for the interpreters in this field.
