Difficulties And Strategies Of Business Conference Interpreting

This practice report describes one consecutive interpreting task the author conducted for a business conference on investment to the Republic of Macedonia held at Guangzhou Four Seasons Hotel.The report begins with a brief review of types of business interpreting: business reception interpreting, business negotiation interpreting, business conference interpreting, characteristics and difficulties of business interpreting. Then the report elaborates on the author’s pre-task preparation and the whole process of the interpreting task. The author analyzes the characters and difficulties of business conference interpreting as well as cases in this interpreting task and puts forward some coping tactics.From the analyses of the cases, the author believes that omission, addition, paraphrasing, and sufficient pre-task preparation are the specific strategies. The author hopes that this report can provide some references for interpreters who are interested in business conference interpreting, so that they could offer better interpreting service to business conferences.
