A Report On The Consecutive Interpreting Task Of 2017 EU-China Business&Technology Cooperation Fair

With the development of the global economy,business exchanges between countries have become more frequent and the demand for interpreters has increased.The importance of interpreters in business negotiations has become more and more obvious.The 2017 EU-China Business and Technology Cooperation Fair(hereinafter referred to as “the Fair”)was held in Chengdu.The Fair is a business fair created and founded by the European Commission to promote trade,investment and technical cooperation between EU members and other countries in the world.The purpose of the fair is to establish long-term business cooperation,including investment,trade,economic and technological cooperation.Through the commission of Chengdu Yes Translation Company,the author participated in the roundtable business negotiation as an interpreter.The business negotiation lasted for eight hours and this report intercepted three hours of the audio for analysis.This report takes the business interpreting practice as an example,discussing the main problems encountered in this interpreting practice as well as the solutions.This report studies the three stages of the interpreting practice---pre-translation,translation,and post-translation.The author analyzes the five major problems encountered in this interpreting practice---translation of terminologies,understanding the accent of clients,difficulties in note-taking,balancing interpreter's subjectivity and dealing with cultural differences.Focusing on the two problems---note-taking and interpreter's subjectivity,the author aims to emphasize the importance of interpreter's subjectivity in business interpreting.Interpreter's subjectivity is one of the important guiding principles in business interpreting.It advocates that interpreters are allowed to play a subjective initiative in the course of interpreting and play the role of coordinator.Thus,interpreter's subjectivity plays an important role in the interpretation practice and the writing of this report.By analyzing this interpretation practice,the author summarized the characteristics of business interpretation and use interpretation strategies and techniques flexibly to solve the problem.Through continuous analysis and summarization of the experience gained in the practice,the author aims to have better performance in future interpreting tasks and hopes that this report can provide reference and help for interpreters who will be engaged in similar business interpreting practice in the future.
