The Interpretation Report On Pingyao International Photography Festival

As one of the most representative exhibitions in Shanxi,Pingyao International Photography Festival?PIP?has won the title of one of China's top ten most international influential festivals by International Festivals&Events Association.As a volunteer interpreter in the 17^thh and 18^th PIP,the author participated in the whole process of PIP including preparation,installation and exhibition.Based on the author's interpreting experience in PIP,this report explores the influence of different contexts on language selection in exhibition with the guidance of Relevance Theory of Sperber and Wilson.Hopefully,this report could offer some practical strategies for further exhibition interpreting.The report is divided into five chapters.Chapter One mainly introduces the background of the task.Chapter Two analyzes and summarizes the characteristics of exhibition interpreting and the relevant theoretical basis of the report.Chapter Three describes the preparation and the procedure of the task.Chapter Four analyzes the guiding significance of cognitive context from three perspectives-linguistic context,situational context and cultural context on the basis of Relevance Theory.In view of the features of exhibition interpreting,the application of interpreters'context awareness in the process is discussed and the coping strategies are proposed according to different contexts via case analysis.Chapter Five is the summary of the report:during the procedure of interpreting,every element in context could affect the interpreter's comprehension of source language and expression of target language.In order to reach the optimal relevance,the interpreter should fully consider contextual elements and flexibly select different interpreting strategies on the basis of dynamic context.By this interpreting practice,the author not only acquires some practical experiences,improves interpreting ability and communication skills,but also profoundly explores the influence of context on language selection during exhibition interpreting.This practice is an attempt to apply translation theory in interpreting practice.Hope it could have reference meanings to exhibition interpreters in the future.
