Abstract/Summary:
With the deepening of economic globalization,the convention and exhibition industry has developed into a new type of international trade serving industry.The communication between customers and exhibitors is indispensable during the event,so the demand for exhibition interpreters has also increased significantly.Under the guidance of Interpretive Theory,based on the author’s interpreting experience at the 2017 Australian Fine Food and Wine China exhibition from 23rd to25th September,this report will analyze the difficulties encountered in the practice and illustrates corresponding solutions with detailed cases.This report is divided into four parts,including description of the task,preparations for the task,case study and assessment of the Interpreting quality.The main difficulties encountered are as follows:the speaker has a strong Australian accent,causing a lot of trouble on the first day of interpretation.Correspondingly,the author adopts immersion in the context,inquirying the speaker and according to the contextual context to solve the problem.Secondly,business English has a large number of technical terms due to its nature of professionalism.The author adopts the methods of preparation,literal translation and free translation to deal with the problem.In addition,because the client is a native English speaker thus he often expresses some compound sentences unconsciously.The author adopts the method of syntactic linearity under the guidance of deverbalization.The author hopes to demonstrate the difficulties she encountered in interpretation through cases,and analyze the corresponding interpretation strategies which canimprove her own interpreting ability,and provide reference and help to those who are interested in the study of exhibition interpreting.
