A Study Of English Reading Strategy Teaching In Flipped Classroom Based On Wechat

Reading is a very important language skill.Numerous studies show that reading strategy not only improves learners' reading efficiency,but also enhances students' learning autonomy.With the rapid development of information technology,the emerging teaching methods are widely applied in teaching.The reduction of network charges,the coverage of wireless networks and the popularity of WeChat are the important preconditions and guarantees for English reading strategy teaching in flipped classroom via WeChat.This study mainly explored whether the English reading strategy teaching in flipped classroom based on WeChat could improve the teaching effects.The research was a 12-week quasi-experiment on English reading strategy teaching,and subjects were 133 students from two natural classes in a college in Hebei Province.One class was an experimental class,and the other a control class.The experimental class used the WeChat platform and WeChat group as the main teaching tools to implement the flipped classroom teaching.On the contrary,the control class adopted the original teaching mode.According to the data analysis of the pre-test,the post-test,the questionnaires before and after the experiment and the interview,the findings of the study were as follows.First,non-English majors lacked the awareness of applying the reading strategy to their reading.Second,the flipped classroom teaching based on WeChat effectively improved students' reading score.Third,the skimming strategy teaching was the most effective.Besides,most students thought that lexical inference was helpful and useful.Thus,students held a positive attitude towards the English reading strategy teaching in flipped classroom based on WeChat,and they also hoped to learn more reading strategies.In summary,the findings of the study confirm the teachability and effectiveness of English reading strategy.Integrating the reading strategy into English reading course has shown a great significance.Besides,the study enriches the English reading teaching methods and research.It incorporates the flipped classroom mode and the emerging mobile learning into English reading teaching,which provides fresh ideas for the innovation of English reading teaching.
