The selected text in this translation practice report is Chapter 11,20 and 21 from the book The Road to Little Dribbling: More Notes From A Small Island, which belongs to the literature of travel notes. The text not only includes description of the landscape of English lakes and mountains, but also involves a large amount of language and cultural background knowledge.Meanwhile,it also contains the strong personal writing style of the author Bill Bryson.Through multiple reviews, the author focuses on two difficulties encountered in translation, described in the third chapter of this paper, which are,how to achieve pragmatic equivalence at the linguistic and cultural levels in translation. The realization of pragmatic equivalence at the linguistic level is mainly focus on the translation of vague words and styles. In the light of specific contexts and pragmatics, the author carries out free translation of some vague words, adopts literal translation and annotation for vague words with deeply implied meanings, and uses domestication translation strategy to highlight style,so as to ensure the readers' understanding of the style of the article. The problem of pragmatic equivalence at the cultural level is to deal with the implicit cultural information and the differences between English and Chinese. The author takes full account of the usage of English, guaranteeing the comprehensibility and accuracy of the translation in terms of meaning and function, and actively compensates for the differences between the two languages and cultures in the light of the cultural background knowledge of the original text,so as to ensure the successful intercultural communication.Through this translation practice, the author gets a deeper understanding of the translation of cultural texts, and summarizes the translation strategies and methods of ensuring the pragmatic equivalence features of texts. The author conducts some discussion on the difficulties existing in the translation of literary texts, hoping to provide some reference for the translation practice of similar texts and the translators who are interested in the translation of travel notes.
