| With the deepening of the globalization, more and more Chinese people have travelled abroad to experience natural beauty and enjoy cultural and historical heritages. The Way of Ben uses a third-person perspective to narrate what the protagonist Ben has seen and heard as well as the changes of his moods when traveling on islands in Greece. The book was published in 2020 and there is no Chinese translation yet. This report selects the first part of the book, the protagonist’s travel experience in the Greek Karpathos Islands as the research object.Under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory, this report analyzes the difficult problems encountered in translation practice at lexical, syntactical and discourse levels.Combined with practical case studies,it proposes corresponding solutions and strategies and provides suggestions for the translation of travel texts. The difficulties at the lexical level mainly lie in Greek words, polysemy and collocations. The author adopts the strategies like diction and reference to parallel texts to deal with them. The syntactical difficulties lie in how to deal with long sentences, and strategies like conversion, division and restructuring are used according to different types of long sentences. At the discourse level, measures like reference and ellipsis are discussed to ensure cohesion and coherence.Through the case analysis and the use of translation strategies,it is hoped to provide some reference to translators of similar texts. |
