On C-E Translation Of Political Essays From The Perspective Of Three-Dimensional Transformation In Eco-Translatology

Xi Jinping:The Govern.ance of China ?,a collection of the Chinese president Xi Jinping's political essays,including speeches,talks,comments,relevant photos and so on during the period of August 18th 2014 to September 29th 2017,was published in November 7th 2017,and so far has gained worldwide attention and popularity.By February 2nd 2018,the circulation of it had broken through 13 million.Since this book is a vital way for foreign countries to get to know the newest policies and focus of China's development,especially at a time when the 13th Five-Year Plan and the completion of building a moderately well-off society in all aspects have both entered their decisive stage,the importance of an accurate and proper translation of this book needs no emphasis.The English translation,is with no doubt one of the most important versions of all its foreign-language versions since English is the most widely used language in the world.Because of the fact that there has been only a little time since the publication of this book,the number of relevant studies of its translation is relatively small,and most of the studies analyze the translation in terms of linguistic features,including translation of notes of this book,words with Chinese characteristics,translation of figures of speech through Venuti's foreignization theory and so on.However,few studies focus on the three-dimensional transformation in eco-translatology.For the purpose of analyzing Chinese-English(C-E)translation of Xi Jinping:The Governance of China II so as to better probe into translation principles and strategies for political essays,this thesis adopts an eco-translatological view mainly from the perspective of three-dimensional transformation.Born at the very beginning of the 21st century and originated in China,Professor Hu Gengshen's eco-translatology has obtained more and more attention and due studies in recent years.This thesis mainly analyzes C-E translation of Xi Jinping:The Governance of China ? from the perspective of three-dimensional transformation,namely,adaptive transformation fr-om the linguistic dimension,adaptive transformation from the cultural dimension and adaptive transformation from the communicative dimension.By analyzing the C-E translation of Xi's book,the thesis finds that the three-dimensional transformation in eco-translatology can be well applied to the translation studies of political essays.The translator of the book has generally realized adaptive transformation from the linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions,although there is some translation that needs improvement in the author's view.Besides,a flexible use of translation strategies and techniques is detectable in the translation process,mainly including strategies of free translation,free translation with annotation,and techniques of amplification,omission,rewriting and annotation.Hopefully this thesis will enrich the translation studies of non-literary text types and provide possible orientation for future studies on translation studies of political essays from the perspective of three-dimensional transformation.
