Research On The Application Of Syntactic Linearity In Conference Interpretation

The importance of language in the progress of human society is self-evident.The diversity of language and the urgency of human intercultural communication have led to translation.An overall view of the present world tells us that countries are committed to international exchanges and cooperation in order to seek the better development of both sides.Among these ways,the international conference is one of the effective ways to carry out international exchanges.The differences in languages of various countries have made the subject of conference interpretation emerged.Conference interpretation is an important support for intercultural communication,and interpreters are the bridge and link of the communication between different cultures and different language communicators.This thesis analyzes syntactic linearity in conference interpretation according to the interpretive approach.Conference interpretation is mainly divided into simultaneous interpretation and consecutive interpretation.Among them,simultaneous interpretation is the main form of many international conferences.The other,consecutive interpretation is mostly applicable to occasions involving only two working languages.This thesis explores the application of Syntactic Linearity in conference interpretation based on the research of President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang's speeches in recent years.There are various influence factors in conference interpretation.This thesis mainly introduces these factors from three aspects which are the speaking speed of speakers,the psychological quality of interpreters and the differences between English and Chinese.The speech may be involved in various levels,which cannot avoid the complicated and long-term discourse.In order to output the corresponding translation faster,an interpreter will use syntactic linearity to assist translation work.In simultaneous interpretation,the translation of an interpreter is almost simultaneous with the speech of a speaker,which requires the interpreter to complete the source language into the target language in a very short period of time,however,the differences between the two languages decide that a interpreter cannot always make an instant conversion,so the syntactic linearity is used very popularly in a translation work,which can even be used as the primary principle of simultaneous interpreting.Consecutive interpretation refers to a translation work while the spokesman is speaking,an interpreter will take notes,and then the interpreter will translate this speech with the assist of both his note and his memory according to the speaker's pauses.In this process,interpreters have a short period of time to organize language,and he can make higher-quality translation by using syntactic linearity.Syntactic linearity can also be applied to consecutive interpretation.By doing this research,it can be found that the application of syntactic linearity in conference interpretation not only can help interpreters make high-quality translations but also reduce their stress.This thesis provides guidance for interpreters to focus more on syntactic linearity in their future studies combining with various translation techniques which can help them improve translation competence.
