Jean Sibelius was a representative figure of the Finnish folk music in the 19 th century. His Symphony No.7,completed in 1924,was his last symphony, which comprehensively reflected his creation characteristics. As a special single-movement symphony,Sibelius also called it Fantasia Symphony at first. It was officially renamed as Symphony No.7 after several performances, and its genre establishment process also experienced some twists and turns. The development of its theme adopted the technique of developing variation.Although the technique of developing variation was also used in the first few symphonies, what made it special was that each theme of the whole symphony was generated from an introduction prototype, and there is also the relationship between the themes of developing variation. The texture structure still has the characteristic of continuous tone penetration commonly used by Jean Sibelius before, but Symphony No.7 more significantly highlights the mixture of continuous tone penetration and polyphonic texture.Meanwhile, its musical form structure is a frontier form with sonata form, although it also embodies a variety of form principles such as rondo and variation. In addition, its theme generation mode and the musical form structure of single-movement symphony are very special compared with Sibelius' previous six symphonies, but these special characteristics do not appear out of nowhere, but they were predicted as early as in the first six symphonies.
