A Study Of The Characteristic Words In Thai Chinese

Based on a thorough review and summarization of previous researches,this paper collects and selects out 276 characteristic words in Thai Chinese through a supplemental Thai Chinese newspapers corpus.According to the standard of whether or not there is a corresponding word in Mandarin(Putonghua)vocabulary,the collected Thai Chinese characteristic words are divided into two parts:non-corresponding words and corresponding words.The former includes words peculiarly used in Thai Chinese and words commonly used in Southeast Asian Chinese;the latter includes three types,words of same substance and in different forms,words in same form and with different senses and ancient words.The characteristics words in Thai Chinese have the following two features:First,they are very inclusive;second,they lack stability and standardization.The former feature is inseparable from the social conditions in Thailand and the language background of the Thai-Chinese;the latter is related to the language characteristics of the Chinese language and the language policy of the Thai government.To solve the problem of the lack of stability and standardization in the use of Chinese vocabulary in Thailand,this paper proposed to take Mandarin(Putonghua)as a reference standard to normalize the Thai Chinese vocabulary.While maintaining the characteristics of the vocabulary,it should coordinate with the Mandarin vocabulary to improve the standardization of Thai Chinese vocabulary...
