A Study On The Music Style Of “Qin” In Zhang Xiaofeng's Composition

ShanXiProvince(also called “Qin”)is the cradle of Chinese civilization.With a long history and unique culture,the music and art from “Qin” hasbeen widespread for thousands of years.In the context of modern music,a group of outstandingChinese composers have made unremitting efforts,trying to reinterpret the music style of “Qin” culture.Zhang Xiao Feng,professorof composition at South China University of Technology,is one of them.The music style from “Qin”has been shown frequently and relevantly in his music,many of his representative works embody the combination of this style and modern composition theory.In addition,he also established a set of new compositional techniqueson the basis of the characteristics of Qin's local music,and practiced it with his musical works.This essay is going to study the regional musical style in contemporary composition by analyzingZhang Xiao Feng'smusic as an example,and discuss the relationship between contemporary composition and regional culture.The first chapter elaborates the concept of music style of “Qin” by looking throughZhang's artistic experience and compositions.The second chapter,from the perspective of folk music materials used by Zhang in his chamber music work,discusses his composition which completely comes from Qin's traditional music.The third chapter probe intohis works “The Silk Road Fantasy”and “YangGe on The Strings” to find out the abstract elements of “Qin” style he used in his composition.The fourth chapter studiesthe theory of composition he established and used in his work “Lotus Lantern”,and discusses his re-creation based on the Chinese culture and modern techniques.Chapter five discusses the fusion and abandonment of tradition and modernity in Zhang Xiao Feng'smusical composition from the angle of art and aesthetic pursuit.
