The Chinese Adverb "zai" is an adverb that often be used in daily life,and we have begun to learn that word as the beginner.This word seems simple and easy to understand,but its semantic,pragmatic and syntactic functions are quite complex,which makes foreign students encounter some difficulties in learning Chinese,especially Indonesian students.In Indonesian,the word "lagi" corresponds to the Chinese Adverb "zai".The grammatical meaning of this word in Indonesian is also very complicated.The Indonesian adverb "lagi" is different from the Chinese Adverb "zai".Nowadays,there are so many studies about the Chinese Adverb “zai”,including study on "zai" origin,semantic and pragmatic and syntactic function,but relatively few studies in teaching Chinese as a foreign language,especially for Indonesian students learning Chinese Adverbs "zai" study is seldom.Therefore,in order to understand the similarities and differences between Chinese Adverb "zai" and Indonesian adverb "lagi",this thesis mainly analyzes three aspects: semantics,pragmatics and syntax.This thesis focuses on the semantic,pragmatic and syntactic functions of the Chinese Adverb "zai" and the Indonesian adverb "lagi".The result of the contrast of the Chinese Adverb "zai" and the Indonesian adverb "lagi" has three characteristics.The first is that the semantic and pragmatic of the two are the same while the syntax is different.The second is that the Chinese Adverb "zai" can not be completely translated into "lagi" and the Indonesian adverb "lagi" can not be completely translated into "zai".The third is that there is a different situation in the same kind.Therefore,based on these three characteristics,this thesis puts forward some teaching suggestions and teaching design of "zai" for Indonesian students.I hope this thesis can be useful for Indonesian teachers and Indonesian students.
