An Eco-translatological Study On Tourism Text Based On Schema Theory

Eco-translatology is a newly-emerging eco-paradigm of translation studies from ecological perspectives,which includes some core theories such as translation as adaptation and selection,textual transplantation,three-dimensional transformation,etc.As a new perspective for translation studies,eco-translatology provides positive guidance for the translation practice.Schema theory in cognitive poetics emphasizes that in the translation process of “comprehension” and “expression”,translator should decode and encode the ST correctly.The three-dimensional transformation,as the translation method indicated by eco-translatology,is too general to be employed in analyzing the translation process,thus the author incorporates schema theory into the system to substantiate the study and attempts to construct an analytical framework.Based on the synthetic analysis of theories in eco-translatology and schema theory in cognitive poetics,this thesis takes the scenic spot introductions in Guangzhou as the analysis object,analyzing how the cognitive schemata are constructed and applied in the eco-translatological process.This thesis will firstly illustrate the three steps of thinking that translators will undergo in the process of translation based on the synthetic model:(1)How to activate the schemata of source text(ST)from linguistic,cultural and communicative perspective?(2)How to utilize the activated schemata to reconstruct the ST and construct the contrastive schemata of ST and target text(TT)from those three perspectives?(3)How to make adaptive selection of the target language(TL)under the guidance of eco-translatological theories and actively construct the schemata in the readers' brain so as to convey the information thoroughly and completely? Then this thesis will accordingly put forward three general principles of testifying the TT based on the eco-translatological schemata,that is:(1)Whether the source language(SL)schemata have been fully activated from linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions;(2)Whether the contrastive schemata have been substantially established from those three dimensions;(3)Whether the translator has adaptively selected the TT from those three dimensions and conveys the information in a complete way.Finally,based on the “assimilation” and “accommodation” of schemata and concrete text analysis,this thesis tentatively proposes some specific eco-translatological-schematic strategies,such as:(1)Eco-translatological schemata transplanting;(2)Eco-translatological schemata compensating;(3)Eco-translatological schemata weakening;(4)Eco-translatological schemata rewriting.Through this research,the author hopes to enrich the theoretical connotation of eco-translatology and supply some referential suggestions for the C-E translation of scenic spot introduction.
