Based on the guide interpreting task in Li’s Family Courtyard in Yuncheng Shanxi, the author conducted a study on the culture-loaded expressions he encountered during the interpreting task.Due to the semantic default, semantic conflict and diversity of semantic associations between the Chinese and western culture, the author encountered some difficulties in the interpretation of the culture-loaded expressions.Adopting Nida(1964)’s classification of culture features, the author classified the culture-loaded expressions into five categories, namely ecological culture-loaded expressions, material culture-loaded expressions, social culture-loaded expressions, religious culture-loaded expressions and linguistic culture-loaded expressions.Under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory, the author made a detailed analysis of the culture-loaded expressions he encountered in the interpreting task. After the analysis, the author put forward four methods, including free translation, transliteration with explanation, literal translation and explanation and literal translation.Besides, the author testified the validity of these methods and hoped that they could shed some light on similar interpreting tasks in the future.
