| The Fourth China-ASEAN Ethnic Cultural Forum was successfully held in Guilin from July 17 th to 18 th,2019.After the forum,foreign guests and scholars visited Ling Canal in Guilin.Entrusted by the Guangxi International Cultural Exchange Center,the author undertook the task of guide interpreting(GI)for the Ling Canal tour.This thesis is a report based on Ling Canal guide interpreting.In this practice,guide interpreting of major attractions includes interpreting the name of major scenic spots,interpreting culture-loaded information,and interpreting Ling Canal-related terms;the ceremony interpreting,which is specially arranged for the distinguished guests from the Fourth China-ASEAN Ethnic Cultural Forum,brings various challenges to the interpreter.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory and Relevance Theory,considering the features of guide interpreting,the author uses a case analysis method to analyze the transcript of this interpretation task and summarizes the following findings: sufficient pre-interpreting preparation is essential for GI tasks;When interpreting the name of major scenic spots,culture-loaded information,and Ling Canal-related terms,the interpreter can adopt proper translation methods like literal translation,transliteration,omission,conversion,and addition depending on the specific situation;In the face of various circumstances brought about by the provisional task,the interpreter should deal with emergencies by applying corresponding strategies,including effective communication,timely psychological adjustment,etc.Based on analyzing the problems,some suggestions for improvement are put forward in this report to provide references for interpreters who will undertake similar tasks in terms of pre-interpreting preparation,selection of translation methods in the interpreting process,and corresponding strategies in provisional tasks. |
