Reiss,German translation theorist,has firstly presented theory of text typology in Translation Criticism: The Potentials & Limitations and divided all texts into the informative text,the expressive text,the operative text and the auto-medial text.According to Reiss,novel belongs to expressive text which boasts a main function of conveying the attitude of author towards certain persons and things.Translator should stress the attitude of author,the unique text formal,maintain semantic meaning and convey the aesthetic effect.This practical report has been finished by adopting the translated version of the first five chapter of The People of the Black Circle to research,and it also presents case analysis to show how the text typology theory of Reiss has optimized the translation process and the translation.During the process of novel translation,on the one hand,it requires translator with high professional quality,reproducing the original form and meaning on the basis of faithfulness.Only in this way,can the target readers gain a equivalent feeling as the source language readers do.On the other,the unique characteristics of novel should also be taken into consideration while translating because any plot in the novel is usually initiated by figures.All descriptions of persons,dialogues and background of story should be presented in details so as to render the dramatic atmosphere,increase the readability and attract more readers.Combining with the theory,it has adopted many translation methods to focus on the translation of modifiers,dialogues and long sentences.Through this practice,the reporter recognized the importance of theoretical support and related knowledge reserve.Otherwise,it has also accumulated some practical experiences for the future translation work.
