The E-C Translation Report On The Tiger Queens: The Women Of Genghis Khan (Chapters 22-24)

This is a report on the English-Chinese translation of The Tiger Queens: The Women of Genghis Khan.It is a historical novel which was published in November,2014 and written by Stephanie Thornton who is a famous writer and history teacher.Chapters 22-24 in part three of the source text were selected for the translation report,and it is mainly introduces the role of Mongolia women played in governing the empire after the death of Kenghis khan,such as Fatima,Toregene,Alaqai and Sorkhokhtani.The book has not been translated into Chinese yet.There are more than 30,000 words translated into Chinese totally.Firstly,the report briefly describes the reason of text selection,the significance of translation and the structure of translation report.It briefly describes the introduction to the writer and the source text.It also briefly describes the text style and language feature as well as the preparations before translation practice.Secondly,the report puts emphasis on the analysis of the difficulties in translation and relevant methods.The difficulties in translation are mainly focused on lexical,syntactic and rhetorical levels,such as translation of proper nouns,choice of word meaning at lexical levels,clauses and some long and complicated sentences at syntactical levels,and translation of personifications and similes at rhetorical levels.At lexical levels,transliteration,adding footnotes,semantic extension and Four-character structures are adopted.At syntactic levels,following the original syntactic order,splitting and reinventing sentences structure are used,and at rhetoric levels,the translation of personifications and similes are described to make the translation retain faithfulness of the source text and conform to the Chinese expression habit.Finally,the gains and experience of the translation report and problems to be solved in the translation report are presented.
