Chinggis Khan is a famous historical figure, the emperor who founded Mongolia khan state and also the greatest conqueror in human history. His activities not only changed Mongolia society and the fate of Mongolia people, but also affected the historical process of China and the world. Many historians, political sciences scholars, military historians, ethnologists and writers in the world have already appraised him. No one else in the history has ever caused so different evaluations as Chinggis Khan has, which will continue for good. No mater how people look on Chinggis Khan, the ancient Mongolia people regarded him as a combination of the ancestor, saint emperor, cultural hero and deity. A lot of beautiful legends were embellished, made sacred and deified after him. The content of the legends was abundant with multiple implications.The dissertation holds the view that the legends of Chinggis Khan that spread in Mongolia people is, as a whole, an united value system and a power discourse that defended a particular group of interest. Therefore it is "organizational narration", which was derived from the power relations of the ancient Mongolia society so as to be a mirror of the power relations. The purpose of the dissertation is, in an inquiry of the interrelation of Chinggis Khan legends and ancient Mongolia Khan power and the thoughts of Khan power, to point out how the "legends" in oral narration was "organized" to be organizational symbol system to present the structural relations and the principles of the organization with a particular interest. The content of the dissertation is arranged as follows:The introduction gives a definition, characteristics and classification of legend with questioning the conventional point of view that took legend as a story in prose and as a form of literature. A new point of view is proposed, which takes legend as a specific form of social public opinions. An analysis is offered for the formation and spreading of the legends from the perspective of the development of human thoughts and beliefs. Some historical figures, events and legends concerned were often organized to be to be organizational symbol system with a particular interest and a part of power discourse. Chinggis Khan legend is a sort of organizational narration, which had important function of ideology in ancient Mongolia society.Chapter 1 introduces the life of Chinggis Khan. On basis of the studies made by the predecessors, the author makes an overall appraisal, according to the theories of power and personality as well as the theory of classified human needs, over the contributions made by Chinggis Khan in Mongolia history with some new cognitions and argumentations on eternal reasons that Chinggis Khan was worshipped by Mongolia people as the center of a large number of legends.Chapter 2 presents a systematic analysis on the formation, foundation, scope and characteristics of Khan power in ancient Mongolia with a new idea that Khan power in Mongolia is a super-economic power that dominates the society over the economical foundation. The legend of Chinggis Khan as an organizational narration not only presents different aspects of Khan power, including the existent power relations and hierarchy, but also pays special attention to the responsibilities and obligations of Khan, containing abundant significances of moral enlightenment.Because of incompleteness of nomadic economy and super-economics of Khan power, the competence over the Khan power is a kernel issue in the political history of Mongolia. In contrast defending the tradition of Khan of "Golden Family" with emphasis on the unity is the main thread that runs through the legends of Chinggis Khan.
