Abstract/Summary:
This thesis is an E-C translation report on the novel The Tiger Queens written by American historical novelist Stephanie Thornton and no Chinese version has been published until now.Chapter 13 to 20 is allocated to be the translation material,consisting of 48168 English words and 78362 Chinese words translation.The selected Chapter 13 to 16 of this report is narrated from the perspective of Alaqai to represent the daily life in the prairie and the fate of women in Genghis Khan Family.Told from the first person,this novel includes numerous female psychological descriptions,which not only plays an important role in portraying various characters and the attitudes of the heroin towards other female characters,but also means a big trouble to the translator.This thesis analyzes the translation difficulties from direct and indirect psychological description,respectively including translation of inner monologue and psychology analysis;translation of appearance,movements,language and external environment description.According to above analysis and the translation practice,the following methods are proposed:(1)Conversing is used to solve the translation difficulties in inner soliloquy.(2)Recasting is used to solve the translation difficulties in psychology analysis.(3)Recasting and adding are used to solve the translation difficulties in appearance description.(4)Cutting is used to solve the translation difficulties in movements description.(5)Interpreting and adding are used to solve the translation difficulties in speaking description.(6)Omitting is used to solve the translation difficulties in external environment description.At last,the thesis advocates eliminating gender discrimination and achieving true gender equality in the hope that women’s identity will be seen and women’s voices will be heard.
