With the rapid development of economic globalization and the frequent increase of international investments,the English-Chinese translation of financial reports has been undergoing a blow-out growth.World Investment Report 2017,as the flagship annual report of UNCTAD on the analysis of global FDI flows,the strictness,preciseness and scientificity of its translation is of great importance and restricts economic scholars’accurate grasp of the dynamics of the international economy.How to ensure the quality of translation,which poses higher requirements to translators.This project report,based on E-C translation practice of key messages and the first chapter of World Investment Report 2017,under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,will analyze major difficulties from the aspects of the translation of financial terms and difficult words,the translation of English long sentences and achievement of coherence at the discourse level.Financial terms can be managed by literal translation,free translation,change of part of speech and the usage of network search engines.Difficult words can be dealt with by amplification,omission and conversion.English long sentences can be handled by cutting,inverting and recasting.Besides,the normativity and conciseness are utilized to make the discourse translation coherent.This project aims to reveal the stylistic features of financial reports and provides applicable translation principles and strategies for the E-C translation of such texts,further to provide positive reference for the translation of financial reports.
