With the implementation of course reform and establishment of National English Curriculum Standards,kinds of textbooks are published so as to meet the demands of students in different areas.For English Study,textbook is not only a main channel of input,but also one of the core medium of English learning and teaching.The quality of textbooks will directly influence the teaching and learning efficiency,so it is important to make an overall contrast among different versions.This thesis contrasts two popular primary school English versions in Qinghai,and tries to answer three research questions through the statistic and dynamic study.The questions are:1.What are the similarities and differences between PEP and NSE?2.What opinions do the teachers have in the course of using the textbooks?3.What suggestions can be given to the teachers?Based on the overall evaluation and contrast of the two textbooks,the main results are as follows:Firstly,both versions of textbooks are designed on the basis of National English Curriculum,focus on the exploitation of learning materials,aiming at developing the learners' integrative skills.Secondly,two textbooks differs from each other.For instance,PEP pays more attention to reading and writing than NSE,while NSE is good at combining many different language skills to develop the students' potentialities.On language knowledge,NSE widens students' knowledge by providing more learning materials and grammar knowledge,and yet lacks a section focusing on phonetics learning.In respect of learning strategies,NSE prefers to design independent learning activities,while PEP focuses on the cooperative learning.In terms of teaching methods,PEP likes to use CLT to organize learning activities,while NSE uses TBLT(Task-based language Teaching)to activate the learning process.Lastly,based on the problems as well as opinions from the teachers and students,some practical suggestions are given to the teachers so as to make full use of each textbook,and make both books help students more effectively.
