Yang Lan One on One is one of the most well-known talk shows in China.Being a platform for many elites to share their stories and ideas,this show presents the audience with a wide range of indepth topics.The hostess Yang Lan conducts interviews with celebrities from various fields all over the world.Her unique viewpoints in the show and elegance on the stage win her a large number of fans at home and abroad.From her interviews,the interpreter chose one episode during which she interviewed Gu Jianqing and Eric Fok on the development of Guangzhou.Guangzhou is one of the liveliest and most developed cities in China.During this mock interpreting,the interpreter encounters many challenges in dealing with miscellaneous information,clarifying the speakers' intention and also conveying some cultural concepts.This report is a case study of the interpreting of Yang Lan's talk to Gu Jianqing and Eric Fok under the guidance of Interpretive Theory.The Triangular Model put forward by Paris School is a theoretical innovation in interpreting researches.It claims that interpreting is a process of understanding,deverbalizing and rephrasing.Focuses are put on three aspects in the text analysis according to the Model: “understanding”,“deverbalizing” and “rephrasing”.The author categorizes all the typical difficulties into five groups in the second chapter: culture-loaded phrases,four-character words,fuzzy expressions,intensive information and coherence.In Chapter Three,with the theoretical support,the writer summarizes interpreting methods accordingly to solve those problems she meets during the mock interpreting.The methods include paraphrasing,combining,simplifying,restructuring,omitting,summarizing and indicating the logic.In each group,the interpreter lists at least five examples.The writer also summarizes her findings and limitations of her report in the last chapter.With this conclusion,the author hopes that this project report will be of some help for those interpreting learners.
