Dragon Light(2014)is written by an American writer Dusty Lynn Holloway.After Dragon Dreams and Dragon Ties,as the third novel of the writer,Dragon Light has been popular among American readers after its publication.The author of this report together with other two translators has been authorized to translate this novel into Chinese by Fiberead,an online publisher that focuses on foreign novel translation.Guided by Functional Equivalence Theory by Eugene.A.Nida,the author employs corresponding translation strategies to accomplish smoothly the translation of Dragon Light.This report contains five chapters.Chapter one is task description.It mainly introduces the background of the translation task,and the source text.Chapter two focuses on process description,including pre-translation preparations,translation process,and difficulties in translating.Chapter three is about the guiding theory.It briefly introduces Functional Equivalence Theory and its enlightenment.Chapter four,the main part of the report,is case analysis.In this part,from lexical,syntactic,and textual level and through some typical cases,the author illustrates how she completes the translation practice under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory.Chapter five is the conclusion,in which the author sums up her gains and losses in this translation practice.
