A Report On The E-C Translation Of Norse Mythology

The source of the text selected for this translation report is Norse Mythology written by British writer Neil Gaiman.The translator selected the last three chapters of the book for translation,and selected typical example sentences to discuss the translation strategies of rhetorical devices in mythological texts and literary effects on translation of myths.The translation report is guided by Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory.The translator categorizes and summarizes the rhetorical devices in the text from the perspectives of phonology,semantics,and syntax,and summarizes the translation methods of rhetorical devices.Finally,the translator summarizes the translation experience and limitations.The relevant experience summarized by the translator in this translation report has a certain reference value for literary translation.This translation report consists of four parts.Part one is the task description,including the selection of the original text and its introduction.The second part is the description of the translation process,including preparation before translation,translation process and revision of translation.The third part is the case analysis,including the introduction of functional equivalence theory,text analysis and case analysis.Finally,the translator summarizes the experience and limitations in the translation process.Through the translation practice,the translator concludes that firstly when undertaking the literary translation,the translator must first ensure the transmission of the original information in the text,and strive to convey the meaning in the original text.Secondly,in view of the importance of oral vividness to the mythological story.The translator should enhance his or her literary aesthetic ability to elaborately express the original text.
