Reading is an important link in English education,and it is the key point and difficulty in English teaching.There are Let's read,story time and tongue twister in PEP Primary English books.The aim of arrangement is to train students' English reading ability,active learning ability and cooperative learning spirit.Learning English in primary school lay the foundation for English learning in the future.Under the guidance of English Curriculum Standard(2011),how to organize the English reading class in primary school is very important in language learning.For a long time,the cultivation of reading ability has been the most valued language skill in English teaching class.This paper investigates the current situation of the application of English reading strategies for primary school students and shortcomings of primary school in teaching English reading class.This paper summaries strategies that are suitable for current primary school English reading,in order to improve the efficiency of primary school students' English reading strategies.According to the requirements of the English Curriculum Standard(2011),in order to improve the reading ability of primary school students,the author has conducted a comprehensive study on the domestic and foreign English reading strategies and English reading teaching theories,considering the actual situation of primary school students' in English reading.It also refers to the research results of some scholars and adjusts the classification methods of O'Malley and Chamot.Finally,this paper proposes the classification of primary school English reading strategies.There are 6 meta-cognitive strategies;arranging and planning,advance organization,self-management,self-monitoring,self-evaluation,and self-reinforcement;and 6 cognitive strategies:contextual ization,resourcing,inference,elaboration,translating,summarizing.After understanding the current situation of English reading and the classification of English reading strategies in primary schools,taking the application of English reading strategies of fifth grade in X Primary School of Bai cheng city for the case.Based on the questionnaire survey of the current situation of English reading strategies used by English senior students in primary school and the interview on English reading teaching techniques and strategies conducted by English teachers,the paper analyzes the use of English reading strategies of primary school students'.It is concluded that primary school students can not use the English reading strategies flexibly,and the frequency of meta-cognitive strategies and cognitive strategies is basically the same in English reading.There are some bad habits of primary school students in the process of English reading.Teachers can teach some reading strategies,but fail to provide students with scientific and systematic guidance in using English reading strategies.This paper puts forward the following suggestions English reading teaching in primary school:improve the frequency of English reading strategies;stimulate students' interest in learning English reading;English teachers should change the teaching concept of English reading and arrange English reading assignments reasonably.
